About 15 of us gathered in the residency gardens to see works-in-progress, and share dialogue under the theme of "Mash-ups", all while drinking vino.
Residency artist Diana Juneck shared images of some of the photographs she has taken while in Akumal. She shared how her work is a constant mash-up of ideas, concepts, forms. Local artist Enrique Alcaraz shared a painting he is working on and discussed how his vision has always been consistent and the same and no mash-up of culture of location or anything has really affected his work. Two very interesting takes on the question of how combinations, connections, crashes and mashes affect artists' work.
The community gathered to listen to these artists, as well as share their own questions and ideas about the art and the idea of blending concepts and forms. Thoughtful and interesting dialogue followed, as did wine, guacamole and shrimp dip! We were also joined by 2 cats, a snake and several iguanas. Life in the jungle!
Special thanks to Lol-ha Restaurant for donating the wine!
We hope to see you at an event soon. Special thanks to Enrique for joining us tonight and we look forward to our final residency artist, Mexican photographer, Sofia Garfias joining us this week!
